SENNEBOGEN 880 M – The World’s Largest Mobile Material Handling Machine Operating At Shoreham Port

880 Mobile Clamshell Material Handling Machine

With its 9-yard clamshell bucket, the 880 M can handle many different bulk materials. The multi-tool coupler allows quick, easy changes between attachments, making the machine very versatile for varied loading and unloading applications.

Shoreham, UK – The SENNEBOGEN 880 M recently commissioned at Shoreham Port in England is the world’s largest and unique mobile rubber tired material handling machine. The size of the 180-ton machine is impressive. It has a total reach of 85 feet (26 m) and a maximum payload of 30 tons. The investment made by Shoreham Port underlines a consistent focus on customer needs today and future requirements in terms of developing new business.

To maximize its overall diversity, the new 880 M machine was delivered with set of interchangeable attachments along with a quick coupling system to enable fast removal and fitting. The range of attachments includes a 9-yard (6.8 m3) clamshell grab, 20 t hook, 30 t hook and a 13-yard (10 m3) biomass grab. The machine can also be fitted with a semi-automatic timber spreader and 15 t capacity spreader beam. The versatility provided with these attachments is complemented by the mobility of the 880 machine, and provides Shoreham Port with an extremely flexible solution for loading and unloading ships in significantly shorter turnaround times.

The spacious and comfortable cab of the 880 provides the operator with a productive and efficient working environment. The optimum visibility and the ergonomic arrangement of all the controls ensure fast cycle times with a high degree of safety.

As well as the new SENNEBOGEN 880 M material handling machine, Shoreham Port also utilizes two 870 M Special machines for port applications. The 880 M closes the gap between the smaller 870 units and the largest rope-operated mobile harbor cranes.

“Critical to the acquisition of all the machines was the fact that SENNEBOGEN and Shoreham Port tailored the specification to suit the customer’s specific needs.” said Alan Motterham, Director of Operations at Shoreham Port. “Proven low maintenance costs and positive support for over 6 years from SENNEBOGEN’s local sales and service partner, E.H. Hassell & Sons, were also extremely important to our decision making.”
